Basically I had 2x500gb drives and was going to set it up in a raid. I went to the gigabyte bios and set up the raid, it said it was successful then booted to Windows 10. once there I went to set up the drive in device manager so Windows could use it. during the process it froze and wouldn't do anything after quite some time I restarted the computer and went to the raid settings. it said the raid failed. So I went and remove the raid and I only have the one 500 the other won't show up at all. tried disconnecting on switching sata cables and it's still not working any suggestions

Iv done raids before never had any problems before and I assume the drive died

Hey there, GraySenshi!

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that @ss202sl is right! You are most probably dealing with a dead drive. I'd recommend you try to connect the HDD externally via a SATA-to-USB cable (with an AC adapter) or a docking station/external enclosure. If you are able to get it powered up and recognized like that, you should be able to troubleshoot it as well. If that's even possible, run the HDD manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool and determine the health and SMART status of the drive. If you wish to configure the RAID array again, replace the drive with an identical one. Check its warranty, if it's still covered, you might be able to RMA it and get a replacement from the manufacturer's customer support...

Unfortunately, if you were running RAID 0, you won't be able to recover your files. :( So I hope you have a backup of the files stored on the array.

Good luck & keep us posted if you have more questions!
