Hi guys!

I made a pc built around 5-7 years ago but the last year I keep getting the nvidia driver crashes and the overall performance is below average for my standard so I just want to upgrade it. Since I wasn't really heavy on the pc gaming because of the consoles I kinda forgot the way the components work ex: the sockets etc so that's why I opened this thread.

first of all this is my current built:
Case: coolmaster HAF series(forgot which one but medium-big size)
CPU: i5-2500K
RAM: 4x2GB sticks from crosair I believe are ddr3?
GPU: GTX 470 twinrozer I believe 2gb
MB: MSI P67A-GD65
Power supply: totally forgot it.

I have no idea why these crashes comes up but I've tried some googling but never had succes. Apart from that I still want to upgrade.
The most logical component to upgrade is my GPU but should i replace my MB too or should I upgrade the GPU to the max of MB?

Note: I did ones upgrade my MB from my original built and also two SSD because they crashed and the PC no longer was able to boot. Along the way I had to reset the OS several times because of unknown errors.

What do you guys suggest?

Yeah, that's a tier 5 unit, or it should be. I don't see Club 3d on the tier list anymore, but it used to be there in a Tier 5 position, which is BAD. You definitely want to replace that. It might even be the source of most of your problems, although I still believe your card is too old for modern games and given it's age could very probably be going through it's death throes.

You're not going to get a very decent GPU card and PSU for 200 euros though. This is the least expensive combination I'd probably be looking at depending on what your level of expectation is.

That 450w XFX unit is probably capable of sustaining a higher capacity than that Club 3d power supply, and is certainly without any doubt of higher quality. Are you...
Definitely the GPU card is seriously outdated. I don't even think it will run on the latest Nvidia drivers. Pretty sure you have to use an older driver for compatibility with the 4xx series cards now. I'd upgrade that first and go from there. The 2500k is somewhat outdated, but is certainly still somewhat capable. What is your total budget for upgrading at THIS time?

Also, take a look at the label on your PSU and find the model number. Poor quality PSU is just about the #1 reason for system issues next to GPU card failures. Besides which, without knowing that it makes it really hard to responsibly recommend any particular card model. You don't want to be using some low quality or no name unit with a high end graphics card.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Budget for a GPU only probably around 150-200 euros but is only upgrading the GPU enough? Will there be any issues with the rest of the hardware when using a newer GPU card?

edit: PSU: Club 3d brand 700W CSP-D700CB

That GTX 960 will wallop that GTX 470 in just about everything you can throw at it, if not everything you can throw at it. Even the GTX 760, which is a gen older than the 960, wallops that 470.

I think that gtx 960 or maybe 1 higher will be my card indeed. However will 450W be enough for my riggy?(edit: I calculated at recommended wattage of 438w, so should be enough)

btw: how about the corsair sf450 that is 89 euros. Total price will be 300euro. I'm fine with this actually. Thank you alot!

SF450 is a small form factor power supply. It will not work with a normal ATX, micro-ATX, mini-ITX or EATX system unless the motherboard has a compatible small form factor connector. You need an ATX power supply, not a SFF power supply. That unit will not work.
