Hi guys, I am going to build me first gaming PC. Since the custom GTX 1070 has released and price drops in GTX 970, I wonder which one to choose. I heard that GTX 1070 is more than enough for 1080P 60hz gaming, GTX 970 is the sweet spot. And there is not much a differnet between 60hz and 120hz. Should I choose GTX 970 for 1080p 60hz gaming or GTX 1070 for 1080p120hz gaming.

I have a hard time to decide amount ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI. Which one should I choose?

Solution

120hz with a 1070 is good a 970 can pull 120fps maxed most of the time but the r9 480 may get close so wait for the 480 if you are ok with fps drops below 120 or not max setting and if not get a 1070

Agreed. Given early leaks, the RX 480 should be a bit above the 980.

I heard that GTX 970 has 3.5gb VRAM issue and poor support on DX12 compare with GTX 1070. Since I am thinking about build HTPC, is cooling GTX 970 going to be a problem?

LOL 60hz and 120hz not a big difference? mate, its night and day. I dont know what kind of delusional person told you that but its the same difference like going from an HDD to an SSD, massive. Dont make the mistake of going for a 970
