That is interesting. I'm not sure whether that means that it thought there was only a Slave device on the IDE port, or that it FOUND a Primary Master device and then check for a Slave and found none. IF you have only one device on that IDE port and data ribbon cable, are you sure the jumper on the device is set to Master?

You have one IDE port on the mobo, and its ribbon data cable can handle up to 2 IDE devices. You must set your device(s) and connect to the ribbon cable properly, as follows:

1. The ribbon cable should have 80 wires in it, although the end connector has only 40 holes (well, -1 because one is blanked off). Count across the ribbon until you get to 20 wires. If you're only ¼ of the way across, you have the right cable.
2. The ribbon cable should have a Blue connector on one end - that MUST go to the mobo IDE port. It should have a Black connector on the other end - that goes to the Master device on the cable. It should also have a Grey connector in the middle - that goes to the Slave device IF you have two IDE devices. If you have only one IDE device, the Grey middle connector is NOT used.
3. Ensure that a 4-pin Molex female power output connector from the PSU is also plugged into the male socket on the device's back edge.
4. On each IDE device, look on the unit's labels for a map of how to set the jumpers on a set of pins on the back edge of the device, between the 4-pin Molex power input and the wide 40-pin data cable connector. There is no "universal" way to do this, so use the map on that one device to set its jumpers.
5. If you have only one IDE device, its jumper MUST be set to the Master position, OR to "Master with No Slave Present" if that is a choice. The IDE port MUST have a Master device to work. Connect the ribbon cable's Black end connector to this unit.
6. If you have TWO IDE devices to share the ribbon cable, then the second device MUST have its jumper set to be a Slave and you plug into it the Grey MIDDLE connector of the ribbon. Also if you have two IDE devices, the Master device's jumper may need to be set to "Master with Slave Present" if that is a choice.
7. IF you have both a hard drive and an optical drive to connect to this IDE cable and port, you probably should set the hard drive as the Master device, and the optical unit as Slave. This is only for a few rare cases - some early optical drives did not work well as Masters on an IDE port with two devices.
