Hey guys, I think its time to get a new cpu...
Right now I have an Intel Core i5 650.... yea I know
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Memory: 8G DDR3
Board: Asus CM5675

I know that my CPU and motherboard are pretty outdated, but what should I upgrade first? Right now I get okay fps in most games, but I want to be able to stream videos and play games, which is impossible for me, since my fps tanks too much. What CPU should I get, and should I upgrade my motherboard?

Thanks

Four 2x4GB RAM would be fine. If you're going to buy new RAM too, go with a Skylake i5 with ddr4.

I have two drives one is ssd and one is hdd

I don't currently know what psu im using, but tomorrow I will open up my case and check.
But assuming that my psu isn't an issue (since i upgraded it 4 months ago), what motherboard/cpu should I buy?

My friend recommended a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK (Black Edition) Motherboard Core i7/i5/i3 LGA1150 Intel Z97 Express ATX RAID Gigabit LAN (Integrated Graphics)
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK-Motherboard-Integrated-Graphics/dp/B00K872IT6/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466401866&sr=1-2&keywords=gigabyte+z97x-ud3h

and something around an i5 4690k.

But I want to know what you recommend.

I recommend a much cheaper, but almost just as good option.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($62.88 @ OutletPC)
Total: $252.87

Compare that to your friend's suggestion.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($234.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($136.88 @ OutletPC)
Total: $371.76

Not worth $120 more. No way.

I really appreciate the help here, I know you don't have all my parts, but since im replacing the motherboard and cpu, do most other parts fit with most motherboards?
And I also have 4 2gb sticks of ram, should I switch those for 2 8gb sticks?

Thanks so much
