After a lot of thinking whether to make the jump to Skylake from Sandy Bridge or get an Nvidia 1070, I have decided to get a 1070. I was contemplating getting a 1080 however I can't justify the performance increase you get for the significant price different from a 1070. I currently have an MSI Nvidia 970 which I use for 1440p gaming. It runs every game I play however I have to lower the settings to high or medium in some cases to get a smoother stutter free game play. 1070's are in short supply in the UK at the moment and most are on pre order. I was looking at the following ones:

Gigabyte G1 Gaming

MSI Gaming X

EVGA SC ACX

Not too sure which one is better. Was looking at the MSI since I would like to do a Red/Black build.

I was wondering, I currently have 8GB 1333MHz Crucial RAM would I see much of a performance increase by going to 16GB at 1600MHz, 1866MHz or 2400MHz. My i5 2500k is currently not overclocked and cannot be for some reason because of my motherboard, not sure if that makes a difference

Next I was looking at doing a few cosmetic changes. Since my current case (Corsair 500r) doesn't have a window and is Red/Black, I was looking at a NZXT H440 in red and black. Was wondering if anyone has or had this case and your opinion of it. Since the current cables for my XFX Pro 750W power supply are black, I was looking to change them to fit with the colour scheme. I could re sleeve them myself however after looking at it it seems too complex and time consuming for me to do. I found this cable kit . It states it is for Seasonic power supplies but I vaguely remember seeing that XFX power supplys are rebranded Seasonic.

Is your RAM dual channel? I don't think you're getting a noticeable boost from higher frequency or more amount but it's also not expensive, the CPU will benefit a lot from dual channel if you have only 1 stick right now. The most important things for overclocking are: mobo, PSU and cooling, but given the fact that you have a Sandy Bridge maybe isn't really worth to waste money in a new mobo just to overclock it, or maybe it is because if you jump to Skylake you have to buy at least the CPU, new mobo and new RAM.

It's up to your budget I guess.

I have decided instead to go with a Blue and Black theme because my motherboard is blue. Also found power supply extensions instead of buying the whole kit which works out ~ £50 cheaper. Just not too sure about the RAM now whether it is worth going to 1600MHz and getting 16GB?

Think I've decided to get the EVGA 1070, its just on pre order at the moment so not too sure when it'll come. Just wondering has any one got one, if so how is it?. I currently have 8GB DDR3 (2 x 4GB sticks) at 1333MHz. Also probably going to get the NZXT H440 in Black/Blue as well along with black/blue cable extensions.

Just pre ordered a EVGA 1070 from Scan. Bit more expensive but eBuyer, although cheaper, wouldn't let me pre order it for some reason. Heard a few people say that they have had problems with eBuyer pre orders. Also ordered a NZXT H440 in Black/Blue and Black/Blue cable extensions for the motherboard 24 pin, CPU 4 pin and PCI-E 8 Pin. Going to give the RAM a miss for now. Also got some thermal paste to reapply on the CPU since I've noticed CPU idle and load temps slightly increasing over the last few months.

Thought it would be a good idea. Got some Artic Silver 5, slightly more expensive but heard its good?. Using a Artic Freezer 7 Pro cooler which came with CPU paste already applied, haven't changed it since I installed the cooler 4 and half years ago.
