Hi there,

Sorry if some of this is obvious as I've worked with loads of computers before but never had a problem like this in the past and really stumped with this one.

I have basically bought a new 850 EVO 500 GB SSD for my current desktop.

I originally have a Hitachi HUA721010KlA330 1TB HDD which my OS is currently installed onto but I've cloned the data from my HDD to my SSD.

I wish to use my SSD for my OS and have certain games on there and use my HDD for storage.

I checked Samsung Magician and it said that I didn't have AHCI mode activated (Currently on Native IDE) on my bios and I've been checking up on it on various different posts from different sites (especially this one) and it seems to have got me confused and going in circles with different answers.

First question is, in what order do I change to AHCI? Is it registry edit first? Followed by downloading the drivers for it and then changing to AHCI in the bios?

Secondly, if I change the SATA type to AHCI, change the registry settings and install the drivers for it, will my SSD be recognised or is it locked to IDE? If it's locked, what would be the best steps to unlock it? Wipe the drive and put a fresh install of Windows on it? (Which I would like to avoid)

Thirdly, will my HDD be recognised when I switch to AHCI? If not, then what would be the best option for it? I was thinking of putting them in the SATA 4 and 5 slots but at the moment they are crossed off in the bios and may open up if I swtich to AHCI, but I'm not 100% sure.

Lastly, I know I'll have to disconnect my HDD when everything has been done but I'm guessing I'll have to wipe it after the switch has been made? Can I put into the 4th and 5th slot if that opens up, I'm sure I can change the boot to my SSD but I didn't see the option in the bios.

Any steps would be greatly appreciated as I've currently come to a grinding halt.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 and my OS is Windows 7 if that helps.

I'll be on the forums for all of today as I really want to get this fixed so if you want to know any more information then just send me a message and I'll reply asap.
