Got about a year before my laptop gets out of date. I need to absorb as much information as possible.

When I was in 5th grade, I recieved a laptop for Christmas and it always served me well. It's on its last legs and I need a gaming PC. However, since I was never had to know ANYTHING about computers, I know nothing at all.

I know what a computer needs to function (RAM, CPU, etc). I know what each of them does. However, when they add of this stuff such as types of CPUs, graphics cards, and cooling systems, I get lost.

Where is a good place to go to learn of all of this stuff? I need to know what brands of the components there are, and what all of these numbers mean in the names of processors and such. From what I've been reading, this type if post doesn't appear a lot. I'm sorry of this doesn't belong here. Thanks!

Best way to learn is to read reviews and watch videos about the different things you are interesting in. Start small, just look into one thing at a time.

Generally I find it leads me to something else to read about. If the next PC you want to make isn't a laptop, use http://pcpartpicker.com/ and let the site guide you to what parts would be best to match the other parts, and then read reviews about the choices to find the best part for your needs.

If it is a laptop, I don't know as I have never had one. I would be as lost as you, but reviews'/videos would help and asking here would also.

You can also find out a stack of that stuff just by being here and asking us :)
