pretty much yes.
Also i'm quite sure that said win7 DVD will not have sata drivers included, meaning you need to load those before you can see your harddisk.

If you can't see your hard disk, you need the drivers, You would need the contents of sata floppy disk download unpacked on either separate dvd or usb stick (which might need it's own drivers too so having them on separate dvd would be safest)
if you have the retail version of windows all you do is call of microsoft have them reregister the pc for you if it boots fine. if it the oem version you have to buy a new copy of windows or do the "my motherboard has failed and was replaced with this".
