I recently got a slightly used MSI GTX 970 from ebay for a good price, $250, and am not getting desired performance. I bought GTA V a day ago and fired it up, and i get 25-45 FPS on the lowestest settings possible. I heard that an AMD FX6300 is not the best for GTA V, but im pretty sure I should atleast be getting 60fps on low (normal). My computer has 8gb of ram. Im not maxing out VRAM as it is under 2GB because of low settings. I heard that some GPUs on ebay can be grey market cards, but it came from California and he had the box, discs/cables, and box. Is it my card? My CPU? Any help would be great!!! Thank you!

Hi,

I would suggest to test your graphic card, as things sold at ebay can have problems! For example I bought RAMs from ebay but to make sure that they had no issues I ran many tests with different softwares. As second thought not sure if this is the issue as I have sometimes random fps drop on a new GPU check the temp of the GPU while playing.

On the other had we have experts in this forum which I think will reply and give you the right answer!

Regards,

uninstall the drivers with DDU

with that processor you should be getting ~40 fps with drops in gta5 high settings 1080p

also do you monitor cpu temps?

In the video above he has his 6300 OCed to 4.7GHZ and is getting 45-58FPS. Only other thing I would check is if CPU is throttling because of VRM's overheating. So run prime 95 for 20 minutes and see if your CPU is throttling. But I would say getting dips in GTAV is normal with a stock 6300.

"I recently upgraded my GPU from a R9 270 to a GTX 970. I immediately noticed a huge improvement, but I still get these random performance issues at times. For example, If I'm driving max speed in the city then things will get pretty choppy...but then it will "catch up" real fast after slowing down and the FPS will jump up significantly.

It doesn't really feel like an FPS lag, just choppy at times
It's not my internet, I have fast internet and these issues happen in story mode as well
The lag/choppy issues happen even if my graphics settings are turned down to Low
It's not constant, rather sporadic, but annoying as hell

Specs: AMD FX 6300 | GTX 970 | 8GB Ram | 144hz monitor at 1920x1080

So this has to be my processor, right? I want to make sure before purchasing a new one. Also, recommendations on a CPU are welcome.

Thanks guys

Edit: Upon further online investigation, I found this link: http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps/grand-theft-auto-v-test-gpu.html

http://i.imgur.com/NPTpulU.png As you can see the GTX 970 is performing well

http://i.imgur.com/7jRiXYJ.png As you can see the FX-6300 isn't holding up

I think it's time for a new CPU"

"Hi guys,

First of all I'm sorry, if this has already been asked/answered on some other thread on these Forums. I really need some help and advice from you all, regarding upgrading my CPU, as I'm a total noob when it comes to all this.

Anyways, my main problem is that I'm getting frequent Stutter/FPS drops on many games like FAR CRY 4, AC: Unity, RYSE: Son Of Rome, Watch Dogs, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, AC: Black Flag, Dead Rising 3 etc., and few more games (both old and new). I game on 1080p.

My current CPU is AMD FX-6300 (6 cores), and I'm using GTX 970 with it. Is my CPU a great BOTTLENECK for my system and GPU ?

My rig:

OS: Windows 7 64 bit.
Mobo: ASUS M5A97 R2.0.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz.
CPU: AMD FX-6300 (overclocked to 4.0 GHZ)
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120XL.
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 (GeForce 347.52 WHQL).
Monitor: AOC E2262VWH, Resolution 1920x1080.

All my drivers are updated, and I don't have any background processes running while Gaming. The only problem is that my GPU never uses more than ~3.2-3.3 of VRAM, no matter how HIGH settings I use while Gaming (Soft Shadows, HBAO+, AA, DSR etc.).

Well I'm aware of this recent GTX 970 VRam issue, but do you think my current CPU would be causing this constant Stutter/FPS drops while Gaming, as I'm only on 1080p ?

Should I Upgrade my CPU to an AMD FX-8350 (8 cores), as that's my only feasible option left, based on my 'tight' budget. Will it give me a performance gain in latest games like FAR CRY 4 ?

I've read many reviews on the web, stating that INTEL CPUs perform much better than AMD, but they are VERY expensive in my Country. But despite that, should I upgrade to an i5 4690k (a true Quad core) ?? Will this be a huge improvement from my current FX 6300 ??

Any help/guidance would be appreciated. To be honest, even I'm NOT that much happy with my GTX 970 performance either. Not complaining though, as it could also be my CPU ??

Thanks in Advance."

Take the i5 6400 instead. It is cheaper and you have room for upgrading.
I had the same problems with the FX 6300 with choppy fps. I found it was due to page file. GTA 5 likes to eat a loooot of page file. I gave to windows 12GB of page file and the problem dissapeared. Try to unpark your CPU cores as well, it might help.
I will upgrade next month to the brand new RX 480 and I want to know how well the GTX 970 performes when it's paired with the FX 6300 because it has the same performance.
