I actually posted close to a year ago, dead set on a 970...kind of glad I held off! Now the 1070 is out, and I have a larger upgrade budget than before.

I am currently running:
1000w Power Supply
8 RAM
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Chipset
Quad Core Intel i5-2500k @ 3.3 GHz
NVidia GeForce GTX 570

I use the PC only to game and netflix. I do have a dual monitor setup. Right now I run everything at 1920x1280.

So here are my questions, I have a budget of about 1000$, but could go a little higher for a good improvement;

1. I'm assuming for my current needs the 1080 is overkill? I was thinking for a while the 1070 will more than suffice, and in the future I could always get a 1080Ti or whatever comes next.

2. I'd like to upgrade my processor. Is an i7 going to give me noticeable improvement over an i5? And which processor is going to give me the best bang for my buck?

3. Last time I asked about upgrading my processor and video card, it was recommended that I upgrade my motherboard as well. What sort of motherboard would accommodate the 1070 and whichever processor I upgrade to?

4. Figure while I'm spending money I'm going to upgrade my RAM, any favorites out there?

Thanks so much for your help and advice, this forum is always fantastic.

is the $1000 including the 1070? you'll need new ram with a new skylake cpu anyway since they like ddr4 ram :)

this is more than enough for a long time to come. can add the extra $100 and get the i7-6700k if you wish though it will only improve gaming in a select few games right now. you can also change up the cooler if you wish. the new skylake "k" cpu's don't come with a cooler anymore so you'll need something if you don't already have one to put on it.

That is exactly what I was looking for. The 1070 was included in the 1k. Thanks much. I'm usually able to figure out what I want in terms of the videocard, but the motherboard and processor stuff is out of my league.

Thanks again!
