Specs
Amd a8 7650k up to 3.6ghz turbo.
2x8gb crucial 1600mhz overclocked to 1866mhz
Msi a68hm motherboard.
PSU 250w (to be upgraded to 500w minimum)

I'm using the current apu overclocked and am getting Total War Warhammer on medium settings 720p approx 30fps..

I want a dedicated GPU as from what I've read. Getting Dual Graphics just isn't worth it.

My budget for the GPU alone is between £100-150.
I was thinking of getting the R9 380 2gb GDDR5, bearing in mind anything higher and my cpu becomes the bottleneck.
Without wanting to upgrade everything, would you recommend this card for my budget or another one?
And would it make a big difference going nvidia GTX instead, seeing as I have an amd cpu.

Thanks for your help peeps.

Solution

I'd...
Save up a little bit more money, and buy an AMD RX 480 for $199 which should be roughly £219. They will be available everywhere in 4 days, and this card matches a R9 390X or a GTX 980. This card comes with 4GB at the above prices and with 8GB for an extra $30. This card only needs a single 6 pin power cable to function.

Second option is the aboves cards little brother, the AMD RX 470 . This card is $149 (4GB) and $179 (8GB) and matches the R9 390 and GTX 970. This card also only needs a single 6 pin power cable to do its thing.

Both of these cards, and a much slower RX 460 (2GB/$99 or 4GB/$129) will all go on sale everywhere on June 29th.

I'd recommend the AMD RX 480/470 as well, but there will be a bottleneck either way. If you want a 380, i think after the 480's release the 380 prices used or new would be cheaper. A 380 wouldn't even be good for it.. If you want a better graphics card i would suggest getting a better CPU. For amd cpu's: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX8320-4-0GHz-Socket-Retail/dp/B009O7YU56/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1466966174&sr=8-2&keywords=fx+8350

The FX-8320 can even do a GTX 970 or 390x. So a 480 would only have a minor (Not noticeable) bottleneck.

If you wan the same socket for a CPU a Athlon x4 880k. It can do a 380: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-AD880KXBJCSBX-Cooler-CPU-Silver/dp/B01BPEZ5P4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466966484&sr=8-1&keywords=athlon+x4+880k

You can try to get a Intel CPU but you need to give up both your CPU and motherboard.. Intel CPU's you can choose for the 380 is a g3258 at stock or a core i3 4130 which can do a 480 easily. or you can try a sky-lake version of Intel (the newest socket and such). Which again do the same things as before but a little better.

Also if you want to get a motherboard, well at least here in the US motherboards go for 44.96 euros. But on the UK amazon site i found these:

Intel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-LGA1150-USB3-0-Micro-ATX-MOTHERBOARD/dp/B00EPB87T6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1466967438&sr=8-2&keywords=lga+1150

Cheers!

Others, thanks for replies.
But I must go with yours, GAMER_1, as the most complete response!
So, either way (380 or RX480) i will still have CPU bottle-neck, but I should definitely see some improvements over my current iGPU no doubt!

But this is only my next step in slowly upgrading.

Present solution: Quality PSU 500W + RX480 (when released).

In the months to come: Upgrade CPU & Motherboard (this one has good, but still limited overclocking capabilities).

Then I could always buy a 2nd RX480 eventually. :)

Thanks a million for you replies and GAMER_1 won this one this time!!
