Rise of the Tomb Raider GTX 1070 vs 1080

Basically what I'm asking is whether the 1070 is capable of running Rise of the Tomb Raider completely maxed out on a 1920x1080 monitor, never dropping below 60fps, while simultaneously recording the gameplay using Bandicam? Or will I need the more expensive 1080 card for this?

I'm no expert of graphics cards but im pretty sure the 1070 is capable of that.

Thanks for your answers. I now feel confident that as far as my gaming requirements goes the GTX 1070 will suffice. :)

Now all I need to find out is whether the 1080 offers any significantly better performance in Adobe programs like Premiere and After Effects (particularly when it comes to colour grading and effects) before I make the decision on which card to purchase (I should probably open a separate thread for that though).

I have a gtx 1070 and i5 6600, the game sure will run smoothly above 60fps at first levels but once it got to places with lots of vegetation like a forest. you will get around 35-43fps (precisely at the "Russian Installation" level after the "Siberian Wilderness Level" you'll notice the drop, not at all places actually if you go to the tomb in that level you'll go back to 60fps+ since there's not as much power needed to process the scene inside the tomb than outside in the forest with lots of vegetation). Even an 1080 I think will get only around 10 more fps from the 1070. If you want to go smoothly above 60fps all the time no matter what go for SLI Setup. I thought 1070 was overkill for 1080p gaming but once I got it, it's not as powerful as I imagine.

Thanks for your reply. I did end up buying a GTX 1070 myself and used it for playing Rise of the Tomb Raider maxed out at 1080p while recording using Bandicam at 60fps (MotionJPEG).
As far as I can remember I never experienced any visual lag or dropped frames, but then again I didn't monitor fps the entire game so I can't say whether it dropped below 60fps at some point or not.
But yeah, I'm sure you're correct that the 1070 does indeed drop below 60fps occassionally (as I've also heard other people claiming so), but luckily I didn't experience any noticable framedrops in my recordings.

A drop from 60 to 35-45fps is very noticeable. If you didn't notice any frame drops visually then probably it only dropped to 55-58 fps. By your setting maxed out do you mean this kind of maxed out settings?

Or do you only change the preset to very high. And what kind of direct x are you using? X11 or X12? I want to optimize this game too for smooth framerate. Thank you.

These are the settings I've used every time I've played the game, except on my very first playthrough (the one where I recorded my gameplay using Bandicam) when I also had 'screen effects' turned on.
I always play with motionblur turned off by the way as having it on often gives me a nauseous feeling so I prefer playing with it turned off. Not sure how much having it turned on or off affects performance though.

I'm running on Windows 7 Direct X11 btw.

I do plan to record another complete playthrough of the game fairly soon, this time using Shadowplay for recording (as I had problems with audio being out of sync on my Bandicam recordings) I'll be sure to pay extra attention to any significant framdrops when I do that.
