Thanks for your answers. I now feel confident that as far as my gaming requirements goes the GTX 1070 will suffice.
Now all I need to find out is whether the 1080 offers any significantly better performance in Adobe programs like Premiere and After Effects (particularly when it comes to colour grading and effects) before I make the decision on which card to purchase (I should probably open a separate thread for that though).
I have a gtx 1070 and i5 6600, the game sure will run smoothly above 60fps at first levels but once it got to places with lots of vegetation like a forest. you will get around 35-43fps (precisely at the "Russian Installation" level after the "Siberian Wilderness Level" you'll notice the drop, not at all places actually if you go to the tomb in that level you'll go back to 60fps+ since there's not as much power needed to process the scene inside the tomb than outside in the forest with lots of vegetation). Even an 1080 I think will get only around 10 more fps from the 1070. If you want to go smoothly above 60fps all the time no matter what go for SLI Setup. I thought 1070 was overkill for 1080p gaming but once I got it, it's not as powerful as I imagine.
Thanks for your reply. I did end up buying a GTX 1070 myself and used it for playing Rise of the Tomb Raider maxed out at 1080p while recording using Bandicam at 60fps (MotionJPEG).
As far as I can remember I never experienced any visual lag or dropped frames, but then again I didn't monitor fps the entire game so I can't say whether it dropped below 60fps at some point or not.
But yeah, I'm sure you're correct that the 1070 does indeed drop below 60fps occassionally (as I've also heard other people claiming so), but luckily I didn't experience any noticable framedrops in my recordings.
