So I have a i5-4670k running at 4.0 GHz. I wanna upgrade to a i7-4790k and a new water cooler because every time I use OC Genie to overclock to 4.2 GHz it blue screens and almost every game. Should I upgrade??
My PC specs are:
Processor: i5 4670K Haswell
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 980TI Armor 2X
Power Supply: Thermatke Toughpower Grand 1050W
RAM: 2x8 Vengeance Pro Series 1866 MHz 16GB
Liquid Cooling: Corsair Hydrop H100 Extreme Performance CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65
Case: Cooler Master CM Storm Trooper
SSD Primary: 850 EVO 500GB
SSD Secondary: 850 EVO 250GB
Fans: Two Noctua NF-F12 Fans

Solution
I vote no. Getting your overclock stable is likely a matter of becoming more familiar with what various settings in bios do. Also, Intel CPUs require relatively cooling, so even a low-end air cooler will not hinder your max overclock very much. Your current watercooler is already overkill.

Even if you get 4.5-4.6ghz out of a 4790K, that's only 7% higher than 4.2ghz, which will be completely invisible.
