the program is a windows 8.1 os. After I try to run this USB, I get a black screen saying "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart
Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". I made the USB bootable with rufus and that's about it . I don't really know what's the problem ,but I would really appreciate some help

Hi again,

You said that you are trying to install Windows 8.1. But the image that you have sent shows that you are trying to install FreeDOS kernel v2041 which is according to Wikipedia: FreeDOS (formerly Free-DOS and PD-DOS) is a free operating system for IBM PC compatible computers. It intends to provide a complete DOS-compatible environment for running legacy software and supporting embedded systems.

If its really Windows 8.1 you want to install, check whether the copy that you downloaded was indeed Windows 8.1 or whether it had combined malware in it. In short, did you download it from an authorized source?

Hi,

Actually the problem is that you don't have your bootable USB drive selected as the default boot device. So your computer accesses your default bootable drive which does not have an OS or has a corrupted one.
To solve the problem,

  • 1>> you can go inside BIOS settings, then to boot panel & then change your default boot device.

  • 2>> OR you can set a temporary boot device (easier & recommended) for installing your Windows OS. To do this, when your computer logo is displayed at the very start of the device, read the info & press the appropriate key for selecting the temporary boot device. Generally its F8 or F2 or F10.

Hope this helps. :)

I've tried to run my bootable USB this new way ,and then I got this screen(the jpg file above shows the screen). I don't know whether it's Rufus or its just a new problem. I would really like some clarification. Thank you.
