The title says it all, I will be using this guide
http://overclocking.guide/gigabyte-z170-non-k-overclocking-guide/
And I will also be using this motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128837
I will be using Hyper 212 EVO cooler

What do you guys think? Should I give it a try? This is my first time making a new build, so I was wondering if I should spend more money on the motherboard and cooler to OC.

Thanks for you answer. But do you think that the Z170 MOBO could be worth the money since the provides a smooth upgrade path? Same goes for the aftermarket.

Z170 is a good choice yes, can move on up to a K model CPU, and the Cooler is a very good one that will pair nicely with a K model (up to about 4.5 or 4.6 OC). You could experiment with OCing via the BCLK but don't have high hopes and make sure to monitor temps, the BCLK basically OCs everything

Honestly, the last couple times I've run the numbers, overclocking with an Intel CPU doesn't really make sense in that there's a decent chance you'll end up with the same or worse performance/dollar once you factor in the more expensive CPU, mobo, and cooler. And if you're not overclocking, a cheaper (non-Z170) provides just as good an upgrade path. Lastly, by the time you need to upgrade that CPU, it'll probably be time for a new platform anyway.
