Is my CPU too hot?

Okay, so I've recently bought a new laptop (Asus Laptop G771JW), which has some pretty good specs, but now I've been wondering if my CPU temp is too hot.

Without any apps running (except Steam and Google Chrome) its temperature is around 38-45 °C (sometimes, but rarely, maybe after an hour or two of gaming, it goes up to 40-50°C), but when I game it reaches up to 78-84°C. Is it alright if I game at such temperatures for 2-3 hours?

Here are my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7–4720HQ Processor, 2.6 GHz (6M Cache, up to 3.6 GHz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M GDDR5 2GB + Intel HD Graphics 4600
RAM: 8GB

Thank you so much for reading this.

Yes it is completely fine. Especially since laptop thermal designs are much higher than desktops. The maximum temp I would speculate before it shuts down is at 100C. The Intel sitehttp://ark.intel.com/products/83504/Intel-Core-i7-4870HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz. Supports my idea.
Those temps are actually low for laptop gaming.

Yes ik it's the 4870, but the same family CPU should be the same T junction.

Thank you so much Ryan! I appreciate the answer :)

Just to back up Ryan's answer, my HP Pavilion G7 with an i5 idles at 43-45C and under load goes into the upper 70s. I have found that elevating the laptop a little for the bottom intake helps with the cooling some. If your ASUS's fan intake is on the back, then I'm not sure if that would help. It definitely helps in bottom intake fan cooler designs.
