Hello everyone. I am having some problems with my verizon quantum router. It is an all in one 4 port gigabit router with 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. The wifi is awful from this device and from reading it seems like other have the same problem. I would like to purchase a separate wifi router and hook it to one of the ports in the back.

Do newer routers recognize that it is being hooked to another router and will automatically setup bridge mode?

During the hookup, do I go from the Verizon LAN port into the new router WAN port?

No. Your FiOS device will not switch to bridge mode just because 1 of the LAN ports connects to a router. And how would it tell, all it does is assign an address to the device at the end of the cable and it accepts it without any fuss. Your second router would become something like 192.168.0.100, just as if you attached a desktop PC to it.

That's correct. You will need to configure the FiOS device in bridge mode and disable WiFi coming from it as well.

To be clearer: Your FiOS device will probably use either 192.168.0.1 or...

That's correct. You will need to configure the FiOS device in bridge mode and disable WiFi coming from it as well.

To be clearer: Your FiOS device will probably use either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Your second router would become 192.168.X.100 (typically), and would be served via DHCP (for the WAN port). You should then configure the second router to hand out address on the LAN/WiFi in a different space, eg, 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.199 (ie, starting at 192.168.2.100 and offering 100 IPs, while the router itself for the LAN side is 192.168.2.1 while it's WAN port is 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.1.100 -- you can configure the FiOS device to not run DHCP at all and then you'd configure the second router to use a static IP).

Which specific Verizon router do you have? I have the FiOS-G1100.
And what is the firmware version?

I have zero issues with WiFi.

I think I have the FiOS-G1100. It looks the same. When I get home I will take a look at the model and firmware. The wifi goes from 50mbps to .5 mbps in the blink of an eye. I could be streaming a video on chromecast (lan only) and quality will go from perfect 1080 to complete crap and start to buffer. I have tried using the 2.4 and the 5 band with no better results.

Someone suggested to factory reset the modem and try again. I will update soon.

When I had the older, Coax modem with the 2 antennas in the back it worked great. Not sure what is going on with this one yet.

Firmware Version 1.3.0.47.64
Model Name: FiOS-G1100
