hello guys. ive posted a couple of months back regarding building a new pc for $2000 ( quite close to 100k in Philippine peso) that ive saved up for 3 years. now i was getting insights and advice from people her to get the most out of my money. and id be finally building my pc next month. and id be planning to get a complete overhaul again in the next 3 years. same as my i7 3820 system.

now my bugget currently is sitting at $2,300 USD exactly. (converted ofcourse and rounded down, just for reference ill be using USD.)

things to point out.

reason why im going for an x99 rather than the Z170 is that i was able to get an Asus X99 - E WS board that is used for over a year for free. a friend of mine who works abroad got handed used Workstation parts so i was able to get one. and it was installed in his personal PC there so it still works well according to him.

so here are my questions.

is the i7 6900k a good choice? my friend there in saudi arabia said that it costs roughly 1,200 in USD (converted from riyals to USD). and i was hoping to grab one but heres a catch
. along with the free x99 WS board. he got handed a xeon e5- 2699 V3 and a xeon e5 - 2697 V3. he is willing to give either of these CPUs for 1,500 in USD. and 1k USD respectively and he wants it sold fast. so would that be a great deal? or should i just stick for i7 6900K for gaming.

also ill be using my R9 390x which is a hand me down, i dont see the GTX 1080/1070 worth it for now and im willing to wait for the GTX 1080Ti if i could afford it by then.

Prats that im opting for that would go along with my possible build would be these. as they are both available here in my country and saudi arabia/britian. ( i pay my friends to buy parts that arent available here in my country)
these ill be using PC part picker for easier browsing to anyone thats willing to help me out ^_^.

I would just keep the i7 3820 and overclock it as far as it will safely go then put your budget towards a aftermarket GTX 1080 (or Ti if its coming out soon). I think if you upgrade your CPU now you won't get enough of a performance boost to justify spending that kind of money, especially considering your gaming @1080P. Even if you where to make that jump to 1440P or even 4K the i7 3820 is still a excellent CPU, here's a guide to overclocking it.

And no, the PCI-E 3.0 is perfectly fine for the newer gen GPU's.

Your friend is giving you a excellent deal on those Xeons but do you really need a 18-Core (36 thread) CPU for gaming? I would think the i7-3820, even though its older, should still have no issues running the newest games as long as its paired with a good GPU.

Honestly, all of the CPU's you mentioned are WAAAAY overkill for gaming. It would be MUCH cheaper for you to sell or give away that X99 motherboard.

You can get an I7-6700k (which is PLENTY for ANY GAME) and a Z170 mobo for around $500 brand new rather than spend $1,000 on a CPU. You should be spending that money on a GPU if playing games is your main focus.

so id get the motherboard and sell it for 50%-60% of its price or higher? it does come with the box and everything thing.

the only reason i really wanted the 6900k or possibly the xeons is that my next upgrade is gonna be 3 years from now so im looking for some sort of future proofing since i i dont have a HUGE salary hahaha . im planning to upgrade to 1440p too soon.
my current monitor a Dell S2440L which i got back same time as i build my system.

so to sum it up you guys would recommend that ill tell him to sell them for higher? while he is still in saudi arabia? since i really doubt someone is mad enough to buy them here in the Philippines, since i just found out at ark.intel that they cost ALOT.

also @WildCard999, i play diablo 3, battlefield 3/4, league of legends and CS:GO and dark souls 3 mainly as of now and i play stuff like dying light and other single player games from time to time. and i dont really notice lag on my R9 390x. since i dont put everything at max as of now for games like BF 3/4.

so lastly is it a good idea to wait for Zen to come out?

and if i get a GTX 1080/1070 Asus Strix right now and save up my money and spend it all when newer systems comes out to do a complete overhaul, is it also worth it? right now the price for the ASUS GTX 1080 Strix is almost a grand. o_O is that worth it?

so this would be an idea build? compared to something like i7 6900k?

or should i just buy a newer GPU and upgrade my RAM? and wait till newer CPUs and motherboards come out?

Also, my motherboard only has PCI-E 3.0. would that affect the performance of the GTX 1080/1070?

oh thanks sir. ill be sure to apply this one.

so ill be getting a RAM upgrade, if i find something good. replace my cooler and chassis with the one i listed using PCpartpicker.
and possibly a GTX 1080. now is it ok that its GDDR5x and my board only has PCI-E 3.0 slots?

Well you do have a good budget, if needed i'm sure you could always get a new case, but yes for air coolers I would go with a Noctua. If you do decide on a AIO cooler, Cryorig makes a good model called the A80 which is a standard 280mm AIO cooler but it also has a fan above the heatsink/pump which helps cool the MB.
