A friend of mine had 3 x 2GB sticks or RAM, with one open slot left, and came across a 1GB stick and put it in to see if it would work. It no longer booted up, so he took it back out and tried to boot it (with everything exactly how it was before when it was in working order) and for some reason it still won't boot and now it is stuck in an infinite loop of trying to boot.
It never reaches any bios screen and the monitor actually never turns on at all. The lights turn on and the fans just spin for one second, turn off, wait about 3 seconds, and it repeats. No beeps.
I have tried removing everything unnecessary (HDD, CD drive, GPU, everything in the USB ports, etc)
I have tried hitting the reset CMOS button, and this makes the first attempt at booting take maybe around 8 seconds instead of 3, you can tell something different happens, but then it goes right back to the normal quick loops and the screen still never comes on or anything.
I have swapped out the RAM and the hard drive with another computer and verified that those are not the problem.
I can't really think of any other things to try.
