I have recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad 11e [20ED000EUS], I want to upgrade the memory module, but before I purchase a memory I would like to ask some questions ...

here is the link to my laptop : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9B53V71603

Questions:

(1) What is the maximum amount of memory supported by 20ED000EUS ?

(2) What is the maximum RAM frequency supported by 20ED000EUS ?

(3) Does 20ED000EUS support DDR4 ?

(4) Does 20ED000EUS support SODIMM or SDRAM ? is there a difference in performance between the two ?

(5) what is your upgrade suggestions ? I would like you to give me some recommendations.

BTW, I have also Swapped the HDD with an SSD, and My operating system is Linux Ubuntu MATE 16.04.

Many Thanks

See the specifications according to the specific model. The memory info says "Up to 4/8GB".. but up to what... installed or supported?.

About the G53SX-A1 I have yet to find the specific information but right off the bat I can tell you that for 1400 Euro, it should support the maximum 32GB of RAM... which was the top support for 2nd generation Intel.

Newegg.com information is reliable so this should be accurate...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230101

Memory
Installed = 12 GB
Speed = DDR3 1333
Type = 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM
Max Supported = 12 GB

Asus doesn't seem to provide the detailed...
1) Maximum memory is 4GB
2) Max RAM Frequency is 1600Mhz
3) Supports DDR3 RAM only
4) SODIMM is Laptop Memory SDRAM is for PC. DDR4 from DDR3 RAM Performance difference is important but irrelevant in your situation.
5) Memory upgrade suggestions. None since you can't add more than the 4GB now in it, or faster as it already has 1600Mhz RAM.
6. The bright side of the HDD to SSD swap is it should run much faster and Ubuntu should run very fast with 4GB RAM

It's not compatible: It's a 8GB module of 2133Mhz RAM. It's to large and fast to work in your Thinkpad.

The size: Your Thinkpad can only use up to 4GB divided in two slots (2GBx2) though some notebooks only have one slot and if your's should be one of them, it would use one 4GB module but not one 8GB.

The speed: Faster than 1600Mhz RAM in your computer would slow down to 1600Mhz so there would be no point in wasting your money to have it work at the same speed it is now working. And that's IF the 8GB would work at all, which is highly unlikely.

I didn't figure the answers, they were anwered here:

So if the information you posted last applies to your computer, you may have posted the wrong model initially.

To get the actual specifications for the model, either get it from the Lenovo website and install HWiNFO and look under Motherboard > SMBIOS DMI > Memory > Memory Controller... Look in the right pane for the Maximum Memory specified.

Asus doesn't seem to provide the detailed technical specifications for this computer model. But I found a PDF Manual which should contain all the information Asus is willing to provide.
