Hey All,

I'm upgrading my old laptop as it's become really slow and I need six months before I can replace it fully.

I've not done a clean install of OS or replaced a hard drive before so I'm after a bit of advice.

Laptop details;
Dell D630
CPU T7500
RAM 4GB 2x2GB
OS XP sp3

I have upgraded the RAM to 4GB already and have ordered a Kingston V300 now (240GB) SSD along with a copy of Windows 7 Pro (full OEM with disc) which should arrive later this week.

I have done a complete back up to an external drive and intend to install the SSD drive and do a clean install of the OS straight onto the new drive.

That out of the way I have two queries:

1) Has anyone used Windows Easy Transfer XP to Win7 and has it worked or would it be better (if long winded) to do it manually from the external drive and browser?

2) Do I need to migrate drivers over or will they be on the new Win7 disc?

If you can help or have any other pointers then it would be appreciated......Thanks

Solution
Open the Device Manager in XP, check which video, audio, chipset, and network card drivers are needed, and download the Windows7 drivers from DELL before you install the SSD drive into the system.
