Hello, everyone.

My family has been frequently getting disconnected from the Internet. Recently we upgraded our bandwidth and got a new modem with it. It was fine for about a month and then started having problems. Comcast came and replaced the modem (they actually installed the wrong one first) but we are still disconnecting a lot.

It happens to everyone. The amount of devices varies, but our standard is 3 wired connections and 5-6 wireless.

Our modem is a TG1682G made by ARRIS Group, Inc.

So the question is this: Can installing a new modem fix our connection issues, or are our problems elsewhere?

I appreciate your input.

Solution
I have the same modem, they don't play well with poor line signals. Too much signal coming in will cause them to slow down, too low low of signal can cause frequent disconnects and slow speeds. When I started having trouble a couple years ago, I put a -3.5db splitter on the line going into the modem and it cleared things right up, my speeds went to back to normal. Ironically, my isp (time warner) said my signals were fine, but they obviously weren't and just didn't want to come out and fix the problem, so I did it myself. To be honest, if you want some really good support, use the forums on dslreports and select the forum for which isp you have and post your problem there if you can't resolve it here. Their forums are full of people...

Thank you, jeremymau. I will try the splitter first. I'll let you know how it goes!
