How to connect a single 3.5mm connector for mic and audio to sound card

I have a headset that has only one 3.5mm jack as a connector. I have a question in terms of connecting it to a sound card so that both the mic and audio works. Do I need to buy a splitter? Or do I simply connect the cable to the audio and will the mic work as well? I'm sure this is an obvious answer, but I am used to USB headsets. In case it's relevant the headset is an ATH-AG1X and the card is a creative sound blaster audigy RX.

A splitter would just duplicate the output, a more correct term would be adapter, to adapt the output to what you need. Though even in my link they use the term splitter so go figure. I haven't used one because I don't own any of those headphone/mic on one cable sets, but this should do the job.
