Upgrading my PC with an RX 480 graphics card but not sure if it will fit or what watts I need.

I have this pc: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9085255

-Model: Veritan X2631
-Processor: Intel Core i3-4130 CPU 3.40GHz (4 CPUs) ~3.4 GHz
-Memory: 4096 MB RAM
-Graphics Card: Intel HD 4400
-Graphics Card Memory: 2096 MB

I took some pictures of the inside too: http://imgur.com/a/BSmAi and http://i.imgur.com/hiRHf6K.jpg

I don't know if the RX 480 will fit... I THINK the cables that might be in the way of where the graphics card would go is for the USB/headphone/microphone and sd card area so I could unplug them since those are in the rear of the computer as well, but I'm not sure if that's really what they are. The power supply is 220 watts currently. What amount of watts do I need after adding the RX 480?

The power supply is not sufficient for the RX 480, as well it will definitely not fit in that case. The cables are not the problem, you need about 3/4 inch of space to the top of that photo for it to physically fit in there, and then on top of that, more space because you want the fan to actually pick up air to cool it.

You need a new case and PSU to use an RX 480 on your system.

I don't know how to move everything over to a new case... But I can make a big hole in the side and weld/screw on a hollow metal covering with holes in it to adjust the width of the case and allow air circulation. Would the card fit length-wise? It's kind of a janky solution but it's cheaper than a new case and easier for me.

Lengthwise probably not with that DVD drive in the way, also the case is not tall enough the card is about double the height. And finally as I said you need a new PSU to power it.

Its beyond janky and not particularly smart or safe.

You can buy a new case for 50 bucks

And you will need the new case anyway for your power supply you will need for it.

That case looks really cool but seems overkill. The card is a gift to me and my brother so I'm trying to make it not cost so much. I guess I have to get one though. Do you think I need 400 watts or would 350 be good? Sorry for all the questions but the most I've ever done is plug in a new card and power supply a few years ago and thankfully they fit because I never considered the possibility that it wouldn't. It'd be great if you could link a cheap case and power supply for me but I can probably manage if that's asking for too much.

I think that's all I needed to know. Now all that's left is the intimidating taking apart and assembling the system in a new case...

Thanks! :)
I would have sorely regretted getting it then finding out it didn't fit.

Not that big of a deal trust me, just make sure you put everything back where you found it. kust in the other case, take pictures with your phone as you take it apart and then refer to them as it goes back togehter.

The trickiest part, the standoffs (motherboard mounts) make sure you only use the ones that line up exctly with the holes in your motherboard.

A cheap good Mini ITX case that can fit any length of graphics card you say?

Building your own computer is easy. Building it takes 2-3 hours, and installing windows takes about 30mins to 45mins, and after that downloading and installing drivers takes another 30-45 mins. After all that, have it download windows updates at night, it may take a 2-4 passes to get them all.

Installing Windows:

Protip for installing drivers safely, install them one at a time and restart the computer after each install to avoid breaking the OS, which can happen if you try to install them all at once.

Actually that case won't work for him because of his proprietary motherboard, it puts the PCIe GPU slot on the outside which means he actually needs a case with 3 slot openings at the back to be able to use a double slot GPU. Hence the multi-motherboard compatible tower I reccomended.

I don't agree, look at any MiniITX motherboard and the PCIe x16 slot is right where the PCIe x1 slot is on his motherboard, this board has an extra slot. It may not even be true MiniITX because MiniITX boards usually end there but this one is slightly wider to accommodate that GPU slot. You can clearly see this if you google image his full motherboard and compare it side by side with any Mini-ITX board, it is wider.

I would bet money it does not fit properly into a normal Mini ITX case which is why he is better off with a case that handles MiniITX and MicroATX.

Hmm, yeah you're right. It's not a real Mini-Itx board, the screws are in the wrong place.
