Hi all,

I dropped my WD My Passport and ever since the drop, it takes a very long time for it to detect. The light would only show when I move the HDD at a particular position. When the light shows and doesn't blink, the disc is spinning but not detected. Only when I move to another position and the light begins to blink, the drive will detect but can take 15-20 minutes to detect.
Once it's detected and I try to transfer files, it shows 300-400kb/s. On 1GB of files, it can take 2-3 hours. What's the problem? Is there a solution?

It shouldn't be, having in mind what has happened with the external drive. It sounds like the issue is with it. If you want to be 100% sure you can try it out with a different computer, or try a different external drive with that computer and the same port, to see if there's a difference.
Hey there, skwan.

I'm afraid that it sounds like you've damaged the drive pretty badly. If you have important information on it, which has not been backed up, I'd strongly advise you to start backing it up, no matter how long it may take.
As for the drive itself, once everything is backed up you could try running DLG (Data Lifeguard) to see what's the situation with the HDD just for you information. However, I wouldn't expect it to work properly from now on, if I were you. :(

Here's how to test it with DLG: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. Please don't run any tests or scans before you've backed up all the data you might need.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
So it's not a hardware problem where the port or the motherboard needs replacing?
