Hi everyone,

Just ordered a new wireless network card, the Asus PCE-AC68. This is because sincing moving into a new house my PC is getting awful download speeds compared to other devices in the same room on wireless, so i figured i'd invest in a top of the range wireless card (until i move the router into the bedroom and go wired)

This got me thinking, which PCI express slot should a wireless card be installed in? and could this be contributing to the slow download speeds i am receiving on my current card? either way, i'm happy to be getting a new card that is dual band, but i want to make sure i install it in the correct slot.

My motherboard is an Asus Maximus VII Hero and the diagram of my motherboard is here

Many thanks.

You may use any of the available slots but if you can, avoid occupying the vacant RED slot as this shares PCIe3.0 lanes with your graphics card, derived from the cpu. If occupied, your current graphics card will drop to x8 lanes whereas it is at the full x16 lanes presently.

Thanks for the replies.

I will install it in any of the PCIe 2.0 slots (i'll probably move it down to give more room for the antennas)

There's obviously something wrong with my computer if other devices in the same room can hit 60mb (the speed of my line) and my PC right next to it averages at about 30. I have hit 60 on my PC but very very rarely, and often it will struggle with loading web pages.

Maybe my existing card is just dying. Thanks again.

I have a question, my mobo is an gigabyte b460m ds3h, i was using an rx 480 in the pci-e x16 slot and my wifi in the first pci-e x1 slot, all working fine until i bought an rtx 3070ti wich doesn't allow me to connect to the first pci-e x1 where my wifi card was before, so i moved it down to the second x1 pci and now the connection is all clunky, speed may vary and isnt stable. Is this normal? thanks for reading this.
