As I said I have a 2gb ram already installed in my pc.My friend gave me a ram of 1gb to install in.Can I install that in my pc?

If they are both the same type of RAM, (DDR2, DDR3 ect) You should be able to simply slot in that second piece of RAM, and the system should recognize it. If one RAM stick runs at a slightly slower speed, it will make the other stick match that speed. The extra GB of RAM will make a large performance increase assuming it is recognized properly by the system.

If same kind as the original (i.e. both are DDR2 or DDR3) give it a try, if problems give a shout and we can try adjustments
