Lenovo y40-70 running games poorly

I have a lenovo y40-70 gaming laptop.It uses an AMD Radeon 275X 2gb and an i7 processor. When i first got it a year ago, it could run many triple A titles such as shadows of mordor at ultra settings at 30 fps. But now, it can barley run most games i have. It runs Ryse son of Rome at low settings at 15 fps and doom at low settings at 20 fps, and just cause 3 at low settings at 20 fps. I put all my games at high performance in the catalyst center and it still runs poorly. If anyone could let me know why this is happening and how i could fix it, that would be great.

Laptops are common to heat problems, have you checked those values for CPU and GPU when gaming?

but can heat make it slowwer by that much? ussually the frame rates are this low when i first start playing.

i ran ryse: son of rome at low settings while my gpu was about 50 degrees and my cpu was 50 degrees and it still ran at about 15 fps.

but also it is able to run dark souls 2 on medium at 40 fps, so it seems that it is able to run few games well

Ok then it's not a heat issue, what is the % of utilization for CPU and GPU when you get those 15 fps?

Gpu is usually 75%
Cpu is 40%

Base core clock frequency is 900MHz right? check if it's dropping under that value, GPU usage should be near 100% except: a) GPU is failing for some reason or b) some other component is holding back to deliver the full potential.

Use a tool like MSI Afterburner while playing, use this one to double check the temps and % of utilization also.

on msi afterburner, it says that the core clock max is 925 MHz

the gpu core clock stays at zero, according to msi afterburner

I can't seem to find the base clock freq for that GPU but I don't think it's 300Mhz nor 0, it's dropping for some reason, are you sure the GPU temp doesn't go upper than 50C? Try HWMonitor is a really trusted software to monitor temps.

the core clock was at 400 MHz and the gpu temp was at 65 c after 5 mins of playing

i think its thermal throttling, laptops tend to run very hot as they dont have much adequate cooling compared to proper desktop builds.

try placing some sort of small block underneath your laptop, ofcourse not covering the ventilation assuming there are at the bottom. and use an electric fan pointing towards the GPU side of your laptop it might sound funny but it did help when i was playing at my old laptop.

also it might be your "power settings" it may be on some sort of power saving. try putting in performance settings or what ever is the equivalent of your laptop.

my laptop is currently in an elevated setup where none of it is touching the desk, but it is held up by pvc. my power settings is also currently on high preformance currently.

my laptop is also connected to a monitor. could that affect game play to make it worse?
