will uninstalling drivers and reinstalling new drivers after swapping gpu affect anything?

That is fine, it`s what you should always do remove the old video driver for the old card while still fitted to the system.
Shut down remove the old card, insert the new one.
Then load the latest driver for the new GTX 980 card.
Perfect !
