Pc specs:

motherboard: msi z97 gaming 5
cpu: intel 4790k
ram: corsair vengeance 2x 8 gb
gpu: 4gb gtx 970
cooler: cyorig h7

My cpu keeps getting at temperatures around 90/100c if it's running.
Temps: https://gyazo.com/270bbb8fe3ddab1be0899f06767e7fb1
So I removed the old stock cooler and the thermal paste
and installed a new cpu cooler cyorig h7 .
This cooler keeps the temperature a little better down. but
I'm still getting way to high temperatures I think. ( 85 was the safe limit?)

my fan setup:
1 fan on top:
1 rear fan
2 fans on front.
My computer is cooled properly I think:

Now I'm thinking the cpu might not have been set right properly.
I didn't change any settings regarding the cpu though.
But maybe the msi z97 motherboard has changed something itself?

I hope you can help me fix the problem.

Sorry. I wasn't paying attention. The CPU is running fine and your software is reporting the Turbo Boost maximum, theysystem is not overclocked and, unfortunately, that means the temperatures are even higher than I would expect.

Your idle should be close to 30C.

XMP means that the system is running your 2400Mhz memory at 2400Mhz rather than the default speed of 1600Mhz. This should not result in the significantly higher temperatures you are reporting. I use 2400Mhz Trident X on my system and it does not increase temperatures noticeably.

Your vlotages look good, your ambient is sensible, and the Cryorig H7 should do better. At school we put one on an i7 4790K and overclocked it to 4.6Ghz, with better temperatures than you are...
What does BIOS or HWMonitor say the voltages are? (Vcore, and Frequency) Just to confirm.

You are overclocking, but I get low 30Cs and very low 60Cs with an i7 4790K at similar speeds and voltages. It suggests that your cooler is not cooling properly. What is your ambient temperature in the computer room? Does it run cooler with the side panel off?

What are your ambient temps?

100c is when your CPU throttles, 130c is emergency shutdown. Intel recommends you keep the top of your heatspreader below 74c, but there's no temperature sensor there.

http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz

Since all Intel mobile CPUs have a listed max temperature of 100c, and your CPU runs close to that with the stock cooler Intel designed and provided, and Intel provides a warranty with it, it seems a safe assumption to me that your CPU is safe at those temperatures.

Looks to me like your graphics card is trapping air and inhibiting airflow towards the top of the case.
That being said, this is a very warm chip. Mine runs into the 60s on relatively light gaming(during the summer like now). You might be wise to tinker with your voltage more or try a lower overclock.

My ambient temperature in my room is around 24c I think.
The processor is running at 35c when idle.
The cooler doesn't run cooler with the sidepanel off.
I've put on the cooler today, to replace the stock cooler.
I've removed the old thermal paste, and added the new thermal paste which came with the new cooler.
Here are the pictures of the all the bios settings of oc genie., note; i didn't change any of the settings in there.

It's in xmp mode? I don't know what that means.

Well. I didn't even overclock my cpu. That's the problem. I think my motherboard automatically did that.
but i don't even want that. Can I undo the overclock or something?

According to intel 80c is safe:

they said the following:
"
Also called "Tj Max" (Tjunction Max), this is the Thermal Specification that defines the Core temperature at which the processor will Throttle (reduce clock speed) to protect against thermal damage. Although Intel processors are capable of operating above 90C, we also know that excessive heat kills electronics.

Sustained Core temperature greater than 80C is too hot for ultimate stability, performance and longevity.
"
I think my motherboard : msi z97 gaming 5 has automatically overclocked it. but i don't know how.

Are you absolutely sure the cooler is mounted tightly and level to the motherboard?

I'm pretty sure because I even tried to move it and that didn't work.
I kept moving the screws with my screwdriver until they couldn't move anymore.
To be sure I set the bios on "improved defaults". Still the same temperature though...
I'll remove the cooler tomorrow and reinstall it. Maybe I didn't put it tight enough. I don't know.
I'll let you know tomorrow if the problem is fixed.

Reattached the cooler, and suddenly everything is fine. Probably a screw that didn't want to go further in the first time.
20-30c when idle and 70-80c when stress testing!
Thank you very much! Everything is working fine now :D
