  • So about 2-3 years ago i bought a used pc from craigslist. Everything went smooth and pc worked fine. After about a year or so the power supply started smelling funny and i had assumed it was being suffocated so i got a new one and propped it up away from carpet. Specs before CPU: AMD Fx 8320 MOBO: Asus M5A 97 LE R2.0 GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC RAM: 8Gb {2x4} Ripjaws Case: Roswell Challenger Mid ATX Tower STORAGE: Samsung 124gb ssd & 500gb Blue Caviar Western Digital. While i was adding the new psu i decided to add 8 more gigs of ram and a new case along with a 1tb harddrive as i was soon going to run out of space of my 500gb hdd. I got everything hooked up and good to go. As i started to play games i noticed my frames would drop alot. They never dropped before. All that was changed was added ram, new psu, and extra hdd
I know it couldnt be the ram or psu. So i took out the hdd, mabey thinking it would help. AI didnt much but slightly. So i kept it out and still had fps drops like usual. NEW SPECS ADDED: NZXT
h440 Blue and black, 2x4 of ripjaws ddr3 ram, so now im at 16gb of ddr3 ram. Ive been moving my pc and cleaning it alot latley and have had both side panels off of the case and my frames got alot better, mostly back tp normal. So i added back the second 1tb hdd and fps did not change but it would randomly freeze every often. I dont know why its doing this and i was also wondering if this could be a heating problem too as my new case might not have enough ventilation. I have had this problem for awhile now and i really need a solution to fix this annoying problem. Thank
s!

Solution
I know it couldnt be the ram

G Skill FAQs:
Q:
I want to install more memory, in addition to my existing memory kit. What are my options?

A:
We do not recommend mixing memory kits, regardless of brand or model.

By mixing memory kits together, there may be compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each of our memory kit are thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. And because we have not tested our memory kit with your existing memory kit, we cannot guarantee compatibility when multiple kits are used.
