i need to know if anyone can point me in the direction of which mobos are decent enough to give me the chance of unloking my locked cores and at the very least OC the darn thing. is any breand better than another? is there a certain type or style board i need in order to have the ability to OC and/or onlock additional cores?

Yes, quite good for everything. On 990 I have FX6350 at 4.8 GHz and before FX it had Phenom II x4 965BE at 4.2 GHz. That same Phenom was also in 980 at same speed. That 980 is incredibly rich MB with all kinds of ports that were phased out in later models.

Not a great overclocker. First thing to look at MB with good OCing is heat spreader (cooler) on VRM section and speaking on VRM, it should have more segments (stages) like 8+1. Most newer MBs allow core unlocking and manipulating, for unlockable processors of course.
Keep in mind that processors have locked core for a reason, they may not be any good or would unlock only with voltage raising. For all of that you also might need an after market CPU cooler and/or better case ventilation.

I thought Asus was the best? I found that the M5A78L-M Plus supports the 840t but I'm not sure it will do what I want to do to at least try to do. is there any other boards you would recommend that support DDR3 and are mATX that support the 840T?
