I had this issue on my P8Z77-V Deluxe board after years of it working great.
Nothing changed, other than time passing, and now, no matter what OS I use (Tried Win 7/10, and Ubuntu) I get a static hissing sound whenever a MIC is connected.
The issue is MORE noticable the higher the Gain/Boost is increased.
It is not program specific, as you can simply right click the speaker in the task bar, go to Recording Devices, Right Click your Microphone, Properties, Click Levels, and check Listen to this device, and you will hear the static hiss right away.
The issue was replicated with other Power Supplies, and in different houses in different parts of the city (for those wanting to go the "bad ground" route).
Removed all other devices, keeping only Mobo, CPU, RAM, corded Keyboard/Mouse, issue remained.
Have tried numerous different Microphones, headphones, and como headsets, and always hear that static hiss.
The system has also been tested outside of the normal case it is in, just to ensure that it was not a build issue within the case itself.
I have since been given a replacement Maximus VIII Hero Alpha board, and sadly, it has the EXACT same issue.
Now, the Sonic Suite 2 does a better job of masking the issue, as it basically functions as a Push to Talk, however the static hiss is still there.
I'm starting to think there is an issue with these Realtek chipsets.
