I am not real sure what you mean eithernet has 8 connections or do you mean pair.
I am guessing your router has a DSL wan port. The difference between DSL and ethernet is not just the cables and connectors. It is a completely different technology running over the wires. Changing the physical connections do not convert the chips inside the router to be able to talk to ethernet.
