Hello! I had an r9 390 which i bought about 4 months ago. It died after about 3 months (PSU maybe? it fried my soundcard too :c) and i sent it back. However i have not got a replacement yet and now the Rx 480 has come out so im thinking if i should ask Sapphire and/or the store if i could get an Rx 480 instead as it is slightly cheaper (rx 480 is 2.2k DKK and r9 390 is 2.4k DKK)
Should i ask? Rx 480 might be better because of the lower power consumption and might not get killed my my psu.

TL;DR: r9 390 died, should i ask for rx 480 as replacement instead or just go with r9 390?

Thanks

(psu is an XFX core edition pro 750w)

Solution
I'd wait for non reference designs of RX 480 (not just coolers) if i were an AMD fanboy.
As a normal human being, I'd would wait for the GTX 1060 announcement this week.
Nvidia managed to jump further with this refresh. Definitely on power consumption. seems like performance too.

Hello,
Well your psu is a good one, for 750 watts, i shouldnt really be a problem. I have no idea though how the hell your gpu was fried. I was once running a radeon 6870 on a 400 watt psu! Its minimum was 500watts and it got fried too after 2 years. I also recommend the rx 480, less power consumption and much more reliable.

Good day

My psu is not very good, its not the watts that matter much. There are 2 series that XFX make and one of them is good and the other is... not so much. I have the not so good one. :s

I have been away for a bit, however i have read that it is mainly very cheap motherboards that get fried, should i be super concerned about that as i have an Asus p9x79-le then?

Oh alright thank you. It will hopefully take a few weeks before sapphire sais something so i can get a non reference model :p
