Can i put 2 different size ram ?

My laptop has 4 gb ram and i wanna upgrade it, my laptop has 2 slots for ram and one is empty, so can i put 8gb ram stick in the second slot to make it 12gb in total. (Acer Aspire E5-573G-566S)

You can. There's always a chance it might not work (that's the case with any 2 sticks of ram, equally sized or not). I've done it before in several machines without any problems though.
