Hey i want to upgrade my i7-4770 3,40 ghz to a i7 6700K skylake 4 ghz, but on the sepcification on the skylake, it says that the supported memory types are only DDR3L and DDR4. My pc uses DDR3, does that mean they are not compatible, or does it not matter.

I know the difference between DDR3 and DDR3L is the power consumption, but i wanna make sure before i buy the processor.

Solution
You would have to get new RAM in addition to the new motherboard.
However, there is no reason to "upgrade" from a 4770 to a 6700k.

Thanks for the reply! My cpu is about 3 years old now, i havent really had any problems with it what so ever, but i figured that it might be outdated, turns out it isnt i guess. I intend to upgrade my ram from 8 to 16 gb though, should i buy DDR3L and have two of both?
