My wife bought this computer in 2009. It worked great for awhile but a few years ago it would no longer turn on at all. It's been sitting in the storage room since. Now we need another computer and decided to try to resurrect this one. Since it wouldn't turn on I replaced the power supply a few days ago with this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-400W-400-Watt-SATA-Power-Supply-for-HP-Pavilion-P-N-5188-2859-ATX-300-12ZBD-/290967997886
I got it to boot up, MB & VC fans would run, but I had no video output. Tried 2 different monitors, different cords and a TV to no avail. Dropped in an old video card I had lying around and low and behold it booted up to the login screen. I rejoiced!!! The USB mouse would work but the PS2 keyboard would not and therefore couldn't login. I clicked to restart the computer but it just turned off, didn't restart. I pressed the power button and it would only boot to the start up screen like this: http://support.hp.com/doc-images/891/c01413989.jpg
I turned the computer off again using the power button. Now it's back to it's old ways, fans will run but no video output. Seems to me the motherboard is failing / dead, can anyone confirm that? Any thing I should try? A new computer, even a refurbished one, is not in the budget anytime soon. Thanks!
