Do think AMD would come out with RX 485/480X

So I know no one know the answer to this just wanted to know what people think. Since we don't know when Vega is coming just seem like they would/could release a stop gap "485" that would end up taking the place of the 390X (since the RX480 seem to bench at or a little below a 390)maybe with an 8 pin instead of 6. Wonder if they will pull a "boost" edition like they did with the 79XX series .

It also would be interesting to see what the Xfire benches are since that was one of there claims that two RX 480 "beat" a 1080 I would like to see frame variance and min/max frame since we know CS/SLI is almost never as good as just a single faster card (when available) due to scaling issues. I would also like to see the benches of 470/460 though not sure when they are being released.

It wouldnt surprise me if the 2304 stream processors of the RX 480 are not the total number on the die . By having an additional disabled block they could pretty much guarantee that they get a far higher yield for sale as RX 480's.
AMD have done exactly this in the past .
If that is the case then the door is wide open for the 480X , but I suspect we will not see that till after Vega arrives, or at least until stocks of Fury cards are minimal

Yeah I could see them releasing something like maybe around the time the Nvidia "1060" come out depending on its price and performance. I would think they[Nvidia] would be targeting the 480. I could see them making sure the 1060(or 1060ti) preforms at the 980 level at around and change around $250 for it (assuming the 480 stay around 240) then AMD could step up with a 480X/485 to beat the 1060. Heck they maybe able to use the same PBC and use HBM memory for the boost.

Based on the AMD press slide released this week that covers the naming, yes:

AMD-Radeon-RX-400-series.jpg

This implies the RX 485 will be revision 2, and this to me suggests it will be equipped with GDDR5X and a double 6 pin power connector. The give away is the memory interface being 256bit with any memory interface greater than 256bit being reserved for RX 490 and up. Because of Polaris 10's IMC we also already know the existing Polaris 10 IMC is GDDR5X compatible.

The other implication with this slide because of tier 9, is that the RX 490 is practically guaranteed to be a cutdown Vega 10 GPU with HBM2. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the GTX 1060 and RX 485 pricing as supply catches up with demand, same thing with the GTX 1070 vs RX 490. I expect something to be announced by the end of August if not sooner. AMD can only afford to let the GTX 1060 and 1070 to go unchallenged for as long as 1070 and 1060 can't stay in stock.

Yes I have a feeling the 1060 will probably bench around RX480 or maybe a bit better (say between 980/ti) level I just wonder what they will try to sell it for. I have a feeling that once those are fully in stock you will probably hear the rumors of the 490 and maybe 485 (which I bet would sport 8 pin power right off the bat).
