So I'm in the market to get a 1070, currently use a 760, mainly play over watch, looking to run games like gears and some other games this coming holiday but I'm worried the 1070 might bottleneck, here's my motherboard and CPU

CPU is AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5 GHz (4.1 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W FD6300WMHKBOX Desktop Processor

Motherboard is MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

I have 16gigs of ram 750w power supply, looking to game 1080p 144hz

Solution
^ yes it'll work fine , as will the 6300 he already owns.

Neither will make full use of a 1070 though or make decent use of a 144htz screen.

If the purchase of a 1070 was to drive a 1440p 60htz screen then fine with an fx CPU .

For 144htz though only a high clocked I5/ I7 is sufficient to push high a constant fps higher than 60.

Thanks, any suggestions on an I7 combo I can get that won't break the bank? Specifically that I can get that 144hz gaming once I get a 1070 to go with it. I currently have ddr3 aswell but I know ddr4 is the standard now

go with a I5 6600k its only $250. and a Asus MB z170 pro gaming it is only $160. add a 16gb ram they are like $60. or so.
If you have a good cooler you can get a EZ OC at 4.0 I have seen that CPU hit 4.8 on under a AIO cooler like a H100I gtx from corsair. This is a bit on the price side but you will be good to go for the next gen games
