I just recently built my first custom PC and I am just wondering if it is worth it to overclock my GPU and CPU?

My system:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170x-Gaming 3
Processor: Intel i7 6700k Unlocked
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ Cooling (Soon to be EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition)
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
RAM: DDR4 8GB Viper Elite Series 3000MHz
Cooler: Macho Rev. B
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80 Plus Gold Rated
DVD Optical Drive: Samsung 24x SATA DVD+RW
Hard Drive: Toshiba 3.5-Inch 2TB 7200 RPM SATA3/STA 6.0GB/s 64MB Hard Drive
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

Take risks, that you can fry your parts, but that rarely ever happens, as long as you dont push it to far. Certain games, you wont even notice a difference, if you are running at around 60fps+ in a game, there is not reason to overclock, but if you are around 30fps in a game, or are at 40 or 50fps and want to bump it up to a solid 60fps or 50fps, I would say go for it. I only overclock when my games are intensive and I am getting low fps, you can really see the difference between 25fps and 40fps. Also, remember that some games, you wont even notice a difference no matter how much you overclock, and it can be scary, with all the greenscreens, flickers, thermal shutdowns, possible frying of components, etc. So you have to take a risk...

Depends. If you are gaming overclock the gpu. It will give you 5-10 fps more
If you need it for rendering, overclock your cpu till it gets up to 80degrees celcius and not more,
and your ssd (With the samsung Magician software).
If you need it for both, oc everything even ram if possible, but remember sth. Oc can cause serious damage.
And, it does not offer much improvement in the long run.
Try oc with a limit.

Also, if you plan on selling that 970, dont overclock it, You dont want the buyer to buy a nice card and then have it die on him less than a year later. Cheers!

Quick edit: Also Note that overclocking may shorten your parts (GPU Or CPU's) lifespan.

Bring up task manager, go to performance tab, right click graph and show all cores. Now, load up your most cpu demanding game (maybe an MMO or FPS) and run around a full server on a large map. Do this for a couple games maybe. If no core stays pegged at 100%, you probably don't need an overclock.
