Hello community,
i have an HP 8000 elite CMT with its 320w PSU.. now the problem is when i bought this PC I didnt have bothered much about the PSU, because i was getting following specs in a decent price
Core2Quad Q9550 - 8GB Ram - 320GB HDD

Later when i went to look for a decent GPU, i got stuck because of the PSU my system has, every GPU i want or the community recommends asks a minimum of 400w PSU, i was to buy GT730(300w) but a friend said it is a waste of money rather go for GT740, but the PSU does not allow me!!!!!

The question is if a GPU (GT740) requires MINIMUM 400w, can my system run it at full load(on a safe side), please i dont want to damage my other components...
............
this is a another separate part of the same question.
The PSU of HP8000 is not a having std 20 or 24 pin, rather it uses 2 separate 4-pin connections for the PWR and PWRCPU supplies and a third cable which i believe to be an ancient and outdated 6 pin auxiliary power cable

so this is a bit technical, i dont know if i am asking a correct question.
GT 740 requires a 6pin external power.. OK
if say i buy a 500w or 400w psu and somehow fit it in the case, can i power the motherboard with the pins it can accept and from the remaining pins, i give 6pins to GT740, WILL THIS WORK???

MANY MANY MANY THANKS in advance for reading my question.... please help...
