Computer turns off when there's a RAM in 3rd or 4th DIMM slot

Last week I finally started putting together my PC after buying parts since January:

Intel Core i7-4790k
MSI Z97 PC Mate
Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Founders Edition Video Card
EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

So after assembling, I turn on the computer and surprise, it turns off some secs after and keeps looping through this on-off cycle.
After testing each RAM, checking the CPU socket for bent pins, taking out the CMOS battery — I discovered the problem seemed to be with the 1st and 2nd slot. As long as there's no memory on those slots, the computer turns on and works perfectly.
This means of course no dual channel for me.

So I went ahead and bought a new motherboard: MSI GAMING 5. I put everything together yesterday and surprise...same thing. This time the issue lies with the 3rd and 4th slot. No matter which RAM I try, if one of them is on one of these slots, the computer turns off 2 seconds afters.

Although I suppose it's not impossible that the two motherboards have broken DIMM slots, I think we can all agree it's very unlikely. The CPU socket seems fine too. Ideas?

Hey,

I was about to propose you look at your socket to see if you bent a pin but I remembered that you changed the board and still it won't work. EDIT : Plus you specifically said you looked at the socket and it seemed fine. Sorry about that, I may have been distracted.

However, it could mean just about the same. I was thinking a bent socket pin could disable the CPU's memory controller to reach those slots. I'm having the same issue as you and my socket is bent so the idea crossed my mind.

But maybe it is the CPU's memory controller and not the socket itself. If it's still on warranty maybe it's worth contacting Intel support...

Good luck !

Robert, by 1st slot you mean one of the slot that's not working? (the 3rd slot in this case).
I've tried installing either ram in the 3rd slot, and the computer won't boot. Same with 4th slot.

If I install one on the first slot and another one on the 2nd slot, it boots fine.
