Hey, this is my first forum and im just asking the community why do my videos look so.... soo not great.. i mean they look good but just not the quality they should be.. iv got a gtx 980, windows 8 and i use dxtory to record. The dxtory settings are 100% the best they can be. Im sure its because of the harddrive im recording them onto. Im uses a HDD 2t with the write speed of 90-100. Can someone tell me is that the reason? Should i record on a SSD then move them to my HDD? Well im hoping that will fix the quality problem. Thanks in advanced for the tips :)

I have extensive DxTory experince, but it would be nice if you could post up some video clips so I can assess what the problem is.

Are you closely monitoring the video capture frame rate? If it's not staying at a steady max of 30 FPS, or whatever you've set it to (should be at least 30), then it's not going to look as smooth.

Your settings should also ideally allow decent gameplay frame rates. Of course the bitrate you compress with afterward has a lot to do with the final look too, and I recommend doing that afterward, not on the fly. Hi res captures also require quite a bit of bitrate.

If your frame rates during capture are not consistent enough, you can boost capture performance significantly by using the Distribution Writing feature. To do this, you have to assign 2 or more drives to write the capture file, and set output to RawCap, instead of AVI. You also have to use the DxTory codec. Note that the capture file size will be huge if you don't set it to Low though. Then after capture, you use the built in RawCap Convert tool to convert them to AVI.

Lastly, unfortunately YouTube's flash conversion compression always makes videos look worse after upload, but there's a trick you can use to minimize that effect. When uploading 1080p vids, if you use VirtualDub to resize to 2048x1152 while running your compression, it tricks YouTube into using a higher bitrate than it would for 1080p, yet it will still be playable in 1080p.

Here's a handy tutorial on how to use DxTory.

Ok iv been trying to record with split files using RawCap then when i use the rawcapconv it crashes.... i think iv found a fix im meant to use "RawCapConv NoPreview" but i cannot find it anywhere... its not in the start menu not in the main files i just cant find it anywhere :/

If you're capturing at 1080p, and maintaining 60 FPS, apparently you'e not compressing in 1080p60. Otherwise there would be such a playback option in YouTube. Thus I get the feeling the problem is in the compression, not the capture. Had you captured something with more real world graphics though, that would have been easier to ascertain.

As for the crashing of RawCapConv, in RawCapConv Settings, do you have "Source files are deleted when build completes" checked? I do, and I never have such crashes. It also makes sense to set it that way since it limits how much storage space is taken, and the RawCap files are no longer needed once built into an AVI.

Shadowplay is amazing i think im gonna stick with it im also going to look into better rendering settings for exporting in sony vegas thanks for the help everyone your amazing :)

If you're currently using Vegas, that could be the problem regarding image quality. There's basically 2 major problems with full featured, name brand editors. 1), they don't support open source codecs like x264, 2), all those features considerably bog them down on rendering speed.

I still prefer to use the much faster and more streamlined VirtualDub with x264vfw. I also use a very high bitrate for 1080p vids, which may be your other problem if you aren't. We had an entire discussion about rendering, and I don't recall you even once saying what bitrate you were using.

That said, if you're happy with ShadowPlay, stick with it. Nothing is more convenient than being able to do 20 minute cached recordings, instead of wasting time and storage space on trial and error captures.
