I'm kinda struggling making decision between RX480 and GTX 970. Not to mention that the RX480 performs noticeably worse than GTX970 in GPU test software, as well as 10+ fps less than GTX970 in some mainstream games ( BF4 and GTA5, take consideration that it's just released yesterday and not getting complete support of drives. assuming it will have the same frame rate performance eventually). Its 8GB reference card is currently selling for £235 (brand version no doubt is gonna be more expensive ) in UK which is more than enough to purchase a Gigabyte GTX970 G1 which is considered the best aircooling GTX970 with the best overclocked speed. Is it really worth it to go for a GPU has bigger memory 8 GB which doesn't affect the performance a lot in standard 1080P resolution ( greater memory helps when resolution increase ) and better support in DX12 ( less likely game developers will give up the support for DX11 shortly, not in couple years. Or stick with a card with still great money-per-frame ratio and well developed, fully examined by games and consumers.

I believe the 970 consumes less power, it has a lower TDP (145 v 150). But like their performance, the TDP is close to identical.

In GTA 5 there is currently some stuttering, which based on the above review would make that game at least unplayable for now. However it is likely to be fixed in a driver update. If GTA 5 is important to you and you don't want to wait, the gtx970 is a great card. If you can do without GTA5 for a while, then the gtx480 might seems to have a very slight edge overall.

Two good cards, no bad choice.
