Hi, i just finished building my pc today, everything was done except the cpu fan which i have installed just now. Before installing the fan (please not i only turned the pc on for less than a minute) when i turned on the computer it would start booting, then go to an error screen saying no cpu cooler and then turn off. Now when i turn it on I get no visual output and the rig starts whirring, all the leds and fans go on everywhere and then it cuts out after maybe five or ten seconds. I am utterly lost as to what to do. I would really appricate any adive you could give me on what to do next as I am totally lost. Thank you.

Solution

well if you overtightened them usually just slightly...
did you use to much thermal paste or get it on the cpu pins? this can cause shorts

if its an intel cpu did you overtighten the cooler (should be snug) overtighten can warp the socket causing issues.

****side note never run any system without a cpu cooler as a cpu can hit full temp in 1sec time(then they engage the thermal throttling to prevent damage but that shouldn't be relied on)

Thank you
I might have overtightened it, if i did is there any fix or do i need a new motherboard? With the fans spinning I mean that the fans go on, the leds on the motherboard, the case, the ram, and the GPU come on and the disk drive boots and starts spinnning, sorry for vagueness

well if you overtightened them usually just slightly lessening them (don't even have to pull the cooler off) will fix it.
