Currently have a GTX970 with an I-INC 27" monitor @ 1920x1200. I want the bigger 34" like the Acer which is 3440x1440 . Will my GPU put out enough power to make use of this new screen? Looking for awesome seemless gameplay in Planetside 2 and DOOM at max settings with no tearing, etc.

What do you all think?

P.S. You think a 144mhz monitor without Gsync is a better idea?

1. Two 970s is a nice match for 2560 x 1440.... for 3440 x 1440, you'd want twin 980 Tis ... 60 ish fps in Witcher 3

2. The premium set up right now is 165 HZ, IPS, 3 ms (real not advertised) ... once you have played on that... everything else just seems lacking. Speaking as a jealous dad after playing on my son's 144 Hz IPS 1440p SLI rig and his college roomie's 3440 x 1440 TN rig w/ twin 980 Tis

Gsync at 40-60 FPS is perfect for most users with the exception of a few competitive FPSers who like playing cutting edge games at maxed settings. However, a single 970 will not be good enough to stay in this zone if you are maxing out everything on higher end games.

The possible good news for you is if you happen to have an SLI motherboard and a decent PSU, you should be golden with another fast dropping GTX 970. I am seeing them used dropping below the $160 mark already.

I have a GTX970 and Acer X34, it is surprising how well the GTX 970 does if you are ok with turning down a bit of IQ from ultra to mostly high in most games, do this and 50-60 FPS is very achievable.

I plan to upgrade the GPU to like a GTX 1070 within a few months BUT would be ok hanging onto the GTX 970 longer if I had too.

If you only had the money to buy a GTX1080 OR a Acer X34, I can safely say you will get a TON more out of a Acer x34 with a GTX970 over a GTX1080 ON 1080p

A monitor is a long term investment likely surviving multiple GPU upgrades.

First off, thanks for the replies. Is there a monitor I should look at? the Acer is stupid expensive. I would hate to buy it only afterwards needing a PSU upgrade.
I definitely want bigger. multi-monitor perhaps? I would upgrade to a 1080 if i thought necessary. I want the best experience, SLI is not something I want if I can get a single card solution.

So Acer? Or can I get a different 34" monitor without gsync?

I have the ACer Predator XB271HU 27 inch. with a 980 TI. In the Division at 144HZ At ultra settings (With AA off ) and im about 50-60 FPS. Doom with all settings max and i cant remember the AA i was about 80-90 and way more without AA. ..but the reason you get a 1440P panel With Gsync and 144hz is to enjoy games at Full detail...id say go fora 1070..then buy the Acer Predator XB271HU (and hopefully u get one without much backlight bleeding or IPS glow) and youd have spent about as much as that 34 inch...but instead u have a Awesome 27 inch.

I realize I'm in the minority here but i have a 27" TN and love it. I went and looked at IPS and just can't understand the hype. A dell S2716DG would hit all the marks, save you about $200, and work great with your 980ti. Witcher is absolutely stunning. The monitor require VERY minor color adjustments out of the box but the brightness had to go way down.

Edit: no idea where i got 980ti from... Still a 970 would do ok with some settings down.
