Forced upgrade due to bricked BIOS and possible CPU failure

So my gaming rig BSOD on me due to an apparent CPU temperature issue, despite the CPU running at 50c.

Long story short, the machine won't boot from HDD, DVD or USB. The motherboard is definitely bricked - I tried updating the BIOS and now I have no display either. I'm having my CPU tested tomorrow to see if it can be salvaged.

So in preparation for some bad news, I'm looking at upgrading my PC. My current spec:

Case: Coolermaster HAF 922
CPU: i7 2700k @ 4.7Ghz Watercooled
GPU: G1 GTX 980
RAM: 8gb Kingston 1600mhz DDR3
MOBO: Asus P8Z68-V

So I can go two ways here. My mobo is definitely shafted, no beeps on startup and the VGA LED remains lit. No video signal via onboard or dedicated graphics.

1. CPU is still OK. All I need to do is buy a new motherboard compatible with the 2700k chip.
2. CPU is shafted too, need new MOBO and CPU.

If option 2, is it worth going to a Skylake i7-6700k, new mobo and DDR4 memory? Such as this bundle? http://www.awd-it.co.uk/intel-i7-6700k-overclocked-4.5ghz-z170-pro-gaming-ddr4-hdmi-4k-bundle.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwhtO7BRCtwuO9gfTH-fQBEiQAdJ8FY-JKJFVJ7vev4eLWXLAls_EN-vpXzYQ4_qZHpX3qreMaApwg8P8HAQ

Will it all fit inside my current HAF 922 case?

I'm not sure about the prices out there, but in the US, you don't save much buying outdated (out of stock) CPUs or Motherboards. Plus, with a i7-6700k, you'd be jumping ahead 4 generations in CPU and Motherboard technology. Note, that may not directly translate into gaming performance.

Depends on how much the older stuff would cost you.

As far as "will it fit". My only concern is that massive heatsync. The Haf 922 is a pretty big case, but I'd check the exact dimensions of the Arctic 13 to be safe.
