Hi guys, I'm based in Liverpool(nsw) and I'm wondering if there are any shops around here that buys old PC parts or anything? I've went to cash converters already but they said no

Solution
In my experience here in the states, the only way to get rid of used PCs is to offload them to private parties on for sale sites.

I usually sell on ebay or regional used sites. Give craigslist or something like that a try.

I've always wondered if it would be a possible business venture (in the US anyway): have an establishment that offers to sell locally people's used PC parts and then take a % commission from the sale. Kind of like a broker but for PC parts. I know I'm one who would seriously consider it for convenience and in the case of meeting up with a stranger for a sale on Craig's List, safety. Haggling by the buyer is another pain.

Say for example someone wants to dump a GTX 970 for $225 and a potential buyer comes in and offers $215. If the 970 seller agrees, it's an easy $10.75 made with say a 5% commission for the business. Just looking at my local metro city's Craig's List ads for PC components, there are thousands of dollars worth of items for sale. And that's just parts, not the used PCs and laptops also for sale which could be an expansion opportunity. There is nothing here in my city (Atlanta) that has that type of business.

Local market is the determining factor, but in a nutshell I would say no.
You are focusing on the limited market of PC enthusiasts that wish to build and upgrade their PCs. Then you are focusing it even tighter on the crowd that wants to buy used parts. In most areas that segment of the market is too small to make a profit. Without buying the parts at pawnshop prices (or in your case taking 40-60% of sale), there is just not enough profit to make, and the parts can set on your shelf for a very long time (the killer for retail business). There is a reason why custom PC shops and even PC repair shops close so quickly after opening...there is just no money in residential/public market (it is in small business support).

I'm doing something like this: people can trade in their old computers over here and either get a discount on a new one or recieve a bit off money (too old computers that are no longer resell able are not accepted). It's working decently but this is a side job for me (a student business project). What you are trying to do won't work because the market is limited and you need to be in a populated area for it to work.
